5. Give a brief history of the company
Tactile Technologies was established late in 2001. Initially the company distributed a variety of IT products, however soon after start-up it was obvious that the focus of the business was to be the Elo TouchSystems range of products. Tactile has grown with the market which is now expanding significantly. In 2005, Tactile added content management solutions and digital signage hardware to its offering. Tactile is the sole Elo TouchSystems distributor in Africa and enjoys full support of Elo HQ. Tactile management has been working with Elo for more than 11 years now. Tactile currently has offices in Cape Town, Gauteng and Nairobi. A further expansion of that footprint is a priority for the company.
6. Why did you join the Self Service & Kiosk Association?
We feel that we are in a very strong position to offer resellers the products and knowledge to empower their customers through self-service and would like to therefore learn from other companies' experience. In addition, we want to position our brand amongst these world leaders that already are part of the SSKA.
7. What do you like about our industry? What are some of the challenges?
What I like most of the industry is the real value self-service can create for customers and the benefits thereof for consumers and public users. In South Africa, a lot of our people do not have access to information and services and we want to play a big role in delivering both. Our biggest challenge is in opening up the mind of customers to the value it can create, to educate our partners in delivering quality solutions and to continuously strive to eliminate the fear of technology that still exists to some degree.
8. What does the future hold for your company’s success in the self-service
industry?
We believe that our industry is ready for a leader in this specific field, a company people can look up to with respect and great regard for our knowledge and leadership in the field of "touch." Ultimately, to be seen as the de facto standard for self-service in Southern Africa.
